Last week I wrote about growing and changing without having to experience pain. But what about those times when we do have pain….when the hurt is so bad we think we cannot go on…..well that’s where the statement above comes in……
If you ask my brothers, they will tell you I was a real cry baby growing up. If you talk to some of my colleagues, they will tell you I’m a real tough cookie. Well, I stand here today telling you I’m a little bit of both. I feel deeply, sadness and joy, so I’m not so tough… and when I feel deeply I cry. No longer do I use tears as a means of manipulation and no longer do I cry on command. I only cry when my heart is feeling so deeply that my soul needs a rainbow. Those tears of joy or sadness are welcomed experiences and add to my growth in effectiveness and understanding.
I do not want to be cold or callous, a person who is so detached from everything and everyone and who is afraid of feelings because they don’t want to feel pain or hurt. Nor do I want to be that person who is so sensitive, taking everything personally, the consummate drama queen. Happiness, peace and serenity for me lies in the middle somewhere – where balance and harmony prevail.
Let’s look at what Chaney is really saying to us in the quote above. Rainbows are one of Mother Earth’s most beautiful gifts. Grandmother Sun shines through after the Cloud People have released their energy to the earth. The gift of a rainbow lets us know there is even more beauty to experience after the rain.
And what about the rain? It is necessary for the circle (cycle) of life to continue – it is necessary for all of us, plant, human and animal, to grow and flourish. At times it can be rough, torrential and even quite dangerous – but it is still necessary. These are the thoughts that give me hope and courage in those times when I do experience emotional pain. As a dear friend reminds me often, pain is unavoidable at times, however suffering is totally optional! (a topic for a future post!)
So today I choose to live in the sunlight of the Spirit that guides me to be a better person. This Spirit, aka Big G, gives me strength and courage and reminds me that there is always a rainbow waiting for me!
Look for the rainbows in your life – accept the rain as a means to a more beautiful adventure!
Be well and be transformed!
